Help using the library

Documents in the library can be accessed in various ways - we offer below a guide to the different library functions, and a few questions and answers.

Browse by Theme

Documents in Biodiversity Economics are organized under three main themes (Valuation and Indicators; Incentives, Finance and Policy; and Business and Consumers). Each of these has been divided into a series of sub-categories, which can be browsed using the menu on the left hand side of the library pages.

Keyword Search

Biodiversity Economics offers a conventional keyword search function that can be accessed from the bottom of the library homepage or by clicking on the ‘Search the library page’.

Search by sector, region or language

All of the library documents have been categorised by (1) economic sector / biome; and (2) region and/or country. Searches for regions and biomes can be combined with searches by keyword. You can also specify for documents in English, French or Spanish - all three is set as the default.

Basics

The basics section is intended for visitors who are new to the use of economics for biodiversity, and includes some introductory texts and summary papers selected by the Editors.

The Spider

The Biodiversity Economics Spider function uses innovative web technology to offer a unique service: the ability to search through a range of environmental economics sites selected by the Editors. This allows searches beyond the Biodiversity Economics library alone.

What are the Editor’s Choice?

Some of the documents in the Biodiversity Economics library have been tagged by the Editors. These are marked as ‘Editor’s Choice’ and searches can be confined to these documents alone. In addition, Biodiversity Economics features documents submitted by readers.

How can I learn about new documents?

The Biodiversity Economics library is updated by the Editors every three months, with a selection of interesting documents that have come to our attention. Sign up for our email updates and you will receive an email when these new papers are published.

Can I add my own papers?

The Biodiversity Economics library also hosts documents submitted by readers of the website (marked as ‘user added’ papers). Register yourself in our People section, and you can start to add your own documents to the library.
